Project Description

24 HOUR COMIC BOOK DAY CHALLENGE, AND THE CREATION OF A NEW HERO

In 2013, I took part in what’s known as the 24 Hour Comic Book Day, where creators try and draw a complete 22 page comic in just 24 hours…no breaks, and no prep work ahead of time. Written and drawn in 24 hours! It was a brutal undertaking, and one I won’t like attempt again, but it did give birth to a new creator-owned comic hero…the Son of Ymir. I basically wrote this comic as I drew it, off the cuff, so it isn’t deep. But I think it is fun. Ultimately, my plan is to give this Viking Hero a full back story, rich with Norse mythology, and have already started an outline of the script. So more to come. In the meantime, here’s some of the artwork, starting with the cover to the book…which I offered at the 2013 Denver Comic Con.

Next up are a few interior panels from the comic…due to the time frame to complete this in, I stayed with a simple palette and minimalist brushwork.

Lastly, here’s a sketch I did of the villains of the story a few days after drawing the book, and following that a triptych of prints I produced for Denver Comic Con 2013 to go along with the book.
