IT’S MONSTER HUNTING SEASON…GOT YOUR LICENSE?
Created in 2007 by myself, Patrick Hoover, The Outdoorsman is a slightly humorous take on a classic horror genre in comics: the monster hunter. I created his unusual hero by starting out with one task in mind; wanting to draw monsters. Of course, with many existing takes on the monster hunter in the comics world today, I felt like I needed to go in a different direction to stand out. Growing up, I went on many hunting and fishing trips with my dad, who is and was a true outdoorsman. Deer, elk, antelope, doves, salmon, trout…we did it all. When thinking on what my monster hunter would look like, it occurred to me that I new the perfect hunter already…my dad. So I crafted The Outdoorsman after my father, and made him more brains than brawn…catching these beasts with his mind and tools more than with brute strength.
And so I’ve been creating Outdoorsman tales over the years, as I send our hero after various evil beasties. Vampires, werewolves, chupacabras..and even the notorious Krampus. With each story, he adds another trophy to his collection, and we get to enjoy the action and a little black humor along the way.
